The MPI Conference 2024 under the title "Potenziale heben mit KI in der Produktion" ( Leveraging the potential of AI in production). Organized as part of the Master Plan Industry, Berlin (MPI). Prof.Raoul Bunschoten attended on behalf of the BH4.0. The conference brought together over 100 participants from business, research, startups, trade unions, and politics to explore how artificial intelligence can unlock new value in industrial production.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Senator Franziska Giffey, who underscored the importance of AI as a transformative force for Berlin’s industrial sector. Throughout the day, leading voices from AI startups, established companies, and institutional stakeholders shared insights on the opportunities and challenges of deploying AI in manufacturing processes. Speakers such as Janette Wiget (Merantix), Dr. Robert Kilian (German AI Association), Dr. Ingo Rueckert (Wilhelm Dreusicke GmbH), and Prof. Dr. Stephan Matzka (HTW Berlin) contributed to a multifaceted dialogue on data, innovation, and policy.
A recurring theme throughout the conference was the critical role of data quality and trust in AI systems. Discussions emphasized the need for transparent and certifiable AI solutions, especially in highly regulated industrial environments. Equally important was the conversation around workforce transformation. Rather than replacing jobs, AI was framed as a tool to augment human labor, provided that adequate training and upskilling programs are in place. Dr. Sandra Saeed from IG BCE and others highlighted the need for social dialogue to accompany the technological shift.
Another focus was on regulatory frameworks and innovation infrastructure. Several speakers voiced concerns about the complexities businesses face when navigating current regulations. The call for more innovation-friendly frameworks, regulatory sandboxes, and public-private cooperation was a clear outcome of the event.
The MPI Konferenz 2024 ultimately positioned Berlin as a dynamic environment for industrial AI. Through the diversity of use cases presented—ranging from predictive maintenance to intelligent process optimization—the conference illustrated that AI is not just a topic for the future, but an operational reality in today's factories. The event closed with a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration across sectors, foster experimentation, and ensure that AI integration supports economic competitiveness and societal resilience.
