How can the SteP Berlin 2040 goals for densification, adding stories to existing buildings, and new construction be implemented using innovative scenario-planning methods and seamlessly integrated urban timber construction?
This year-long workshop series bridges forestry and urban development by establishing of a networking framework between key stakeholders to initiate collaborative projects across the entire "Forest-to-City" value chain.
By leveraging serial prefabrication, circular design, financing solutions and AI-driven data integration, the initiative accelerates sustainable urban timber construction while cutting CO₂ emissions and simplifying complex planning processes.
Ultimately, these efficiencies aim to lower construction costs for urban timber construction, advancing social equity and affordable housing solutions.

Built by Nature (BbN) funded a grant for Bauhütte 4.0 collaborated with DiKieHo and CHORA Berlin, to convene the recent "Strengthening The Demand for Urban Timber Construction" workshop, which provided a series of interesting revelations and served as an important forum dedicated to accelerating the demand for timber in urban construction.
BbN’s mission is to accelerate the use of biobased materials in construction to support the built environment’s transition to net zero emissions by building connections among industry frontrunners and enabling innovation and investments; but also, by telling inspiring stories of ground-breaking nature-based projects and consolidating a common message for the movement.
